Beer And Weight Loss
|
Question: How bad is it to goto to the gym then to pub after and drink 3 pints of beer but still be within your calorie limit?
Answer: This depends on a number of different factors, generally it's not too bad to have 1 pint after a workout for social reasons or just to feel refreshed obviously if you can go to the pub and drink orange juice or water then it's a whole lot better as remember alcohol is a diuretic and will not replenish fluid lost by sweating.
My first point is how hard you've worked at the gym lets say 1 pint is approx 170 calories for me (24 yrs old + 70 kg) that is about 12-15 mins on a rowing machine or 7-10 mins on a treadmill. If your workout is only say half an hour then you will be consuming more calories in your post workout in the pub (3x Pints = approx 550-600 calories) than you lost actually in your workout!!!
If you have had a good workout then it is not as bad as long as you know you've stayed within your calorie limit but again I stress that post-workout alcohol is NOT great for being low-cal or helping you to hydrate, I would maybe have 1 pint of beer and 1 pint of squash as well.
Just for the record 1 pint of beer = approx 170 calories thats over 1000 calories if you have 1 beer per night per week, non-alcholic beer has the same amount of calories, the best option is something like bud light at only 99 calories per bottle.
But personally again I would not consume 3 pints of beer straight after a workout - its not very good for your body!
Hope this helps.
