Nuts
|
Are you looking for a healthy, tasty, filling snack that won’t stack the pounds on? Eat more nuts! Many people and even nutritionists claim that nuts are fattening. This is absolutely false. While they are very fatty, the fats that come from nuts such as almonds, cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts and brazil nuts are predominantly the healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated types. These fats are widely recognised as protective for heart disease and strokes. Nuts are also a good source of fibre, magnesium and potassium, which are also known to have heart-healthy properties. In more than one study, eating nuts has been found to be associated with a substantially reduced risk of heart disease. Because heat has the potential to damage the fat in nuts, they are almost certainly best had in their raw form. However, even roasted doesn’t seem to be a big problem.
And the great news is that this healthy snack is convenient and widely available.
